Servent of the Forest by Bryn Colvin

1) Please tell us about your latest/upcoming book. Is it a series or stand alone?

My latest is Servant of the Forest from www.loveyoudivine.com – it’s a standalone although I have used the setting before. It’s a dark fantasy romance, with lots of strange magic, and a very intense love affair.

2) How do you write: plot every detail or write by the seat of your pants?

I tend to have a vague sense of a story shape before I start, although I don’t always stick to it. Mostly, I’m a panster. I enjoy the freedom of making things up as I go along, exploring where the inspiration takes me in the moment.

3) What book was the hardest to write? The easiest?

The hardest ones languish on my hard drive, unfinished! The easiest recently would have been New England Gothic (which I’m self publishing) it pretty much wrote itself. It’s a backstory for the webcomic I do with Tom Brown – www.itisacircle.com

4)What is coming up for you in 2010? Can we get a sneak look into them?

My life, like my stories, tends to be a bit improvised, but, the Immortal Fire anthology should be well and truly out in paperback by then – from www.loveyoudivine.com again. That’s a whole collection of stories by various authors, about gay immortals. I’ve read all of the stories in it, and am very proud to be part of that project.

5) If you could meet any mythical being, who would it be and why?

I’d love to meet a dragon – I think my son would never forgive me if I opted to encounter anything else! He’s a bit dragon obsessed. I’d be up for encountering pretty much anything on my own account. Faeries would good – the dark dangerous sort that ensnare your senses and steal you mind… although I know how sensible that isn’t as a wish :-)

6) If we looked on your bookshelves, what would we see? Any favorite authors there?

Everything from Greek classical writers through to modern academics, stopping most places along the way. I’m omnivorous when it comes to books, and I have a lot of them. Favourites… Neil Gaiman, Robert Holdstock, Brendan Myers, Margaret Atwood, Emma Restall Orr, George Eliot…

7) We popped in for a spell and opened the fridge, what would we find there?

Currently, yogurt, half a pumpkin, some raw beetroot, home made bread, cheese, milk, mayonaise… that’s about it. I try to buy fresh, make from scratch and not keep things hanging about for too long.

8) Are you a reality TV junkie? If so, what are your faves to watch or tivo? If not, what is your preferred shows to watch?

I don’t have a television, and have been that way for about 9 years now. I see odd episodes of Dr Who on DVD and have never watched any reality TV shows.

9) Where can readers find you on the web?

and other places – I’m a bit of a blog-tart!

Eiluned’s people are fighting for their lives against a technologically superior foe. If they fail, slavery, and the destruction of their forest seem inevitable. Captured by her enemies, Eiluned faces torture and a slow death. In the midst of her pain, she reaches for magic, in a desperate cry for help. When comfort comes in the form of a voice in her head, she struggles to trust it. However, there are powers in the forest, and they will not give up the land without a fight. They need Eilune to break so they can enter her, and bring change. If torture does not tear her apart for them, love might.

    Hi Bryn,

Thanks for coming by. I love the premise of this one. Is there a genre you haven’t done yet but want to in the future?

I went by your website to find out more about the webcomic you spoke about above. Tom Brown’s sketches are awesome. You must be excited about writing the story.
