Seducing Destiny by Anne Kane

Why did you become a writer? Was it a dream of yours since you were younger or did the desire to write happen later in your life?

I’ve wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. I used to make up stories to tell my sister when we were little, mostly about fairies and elves and castles. I still love the fantasy genre.

What do you love about being an author? Is there anything you dislike?

I love the fact that people actually read what I write. I know, that sounds corny but it’s true. I think all of us writers have very fragile egos. I have moments where I wonder if I’m deluding myself and my writing really sucks. Then a reader makes some nice comment, and I go “Hey, I guess I’m not so bad after all!”

Dislike? Hmmm. Not much really. I don’t even mind doing promo, except that it takes time away from actually writing.

How do you balance your personal and writing time?

Balancing time is just something you do. I like to write early in the morning or later in the evening, when the dog and cat are curled up asleep. I work full-time so writing during the day is out. I try not to contract too much in advance because I know I’ll end up spending more time writing and less doing other things. Having said that, if I have promised to write a book for a particular submission call, I do it. Being reliable is important to me, and sometimes being under deadline is what motivates me to finish a story.

Do you tend to base your characters on real people or are they totally from your imagination?

My characters come totally from my imagination. In the case of my heroes, they are based on late night fantasies and wishful thinking!

What do you have coming in 2010? Any releases coming up you want to shout out about?

I have five releases contracted to Changeling Press for 2010. They are:

Release Date – February
Shifting Priorities – Mating Frenzy
Book 4 in the Imperial Were-Panther series
Release – May
Sex and Chocolate: Dark Kisses
The story of Jeff and Katie – introduced in Seducing Destiny

Release – August
Star Haven – Sinful
A new series set in the Stargazers universe.

Release – November
Mating Season – Imperial Command

A new series about the Imperial Were-Panthers

Release – As yet Unsheduled
Dragon Kin – Captive Heart

From Red Sage Publishing

I also have a novella coming out in print on December 10th in Secrets, Vol 30 from Red Sage Publishing. This is the novella, Kellen’s Conquest, that won their Alpha Male writing Contest in April of 2008. I’m really really really excited about this release because Kellen’s Conquest was my first attempt at writing when I decided to get serious about writing a few years back. It’s been a long wait, but definitely worth it!

If you could meet any mythical being, who would it be and why?

I’d like to meet a gryphon, because they’ve always fascinated me. They’re big and strong, can fly, and are not as commonly used as dragons in storytelling. Mostly though, I’d just like to be able to tell all those people that turn their noses up at fantasy that I’d met one and they really do exist.

If we looked on your bookshelves, what would we see? Any favorite authors there?

I’m glad you used the plural for bookshelves, because I’ve got quite a few of them. Christine Feehan, Angela Knight, Dakota Cassidy, Sue Grafton, Kelley Armstrong, Isaac Asimov, Piers Anthony, Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Briggs, Robert Jordan, Michele Bardsley…. And the list goes on….

We popped in for a spell and opened the fridge, what would we find there?
You have to realize, I live alone so I don’t necessarily do the three meal a day thing. To balance that out, I try to snack healthy. I always have yogurt on hand, as well as my favorite veggies which include sweet peppers, carrots, radishes and broccoli. I like to have fresh fruit on hand as well. There’s usually baked chicken breast, skim milk, and bread. I have to keep the bread in there or it goes moldy by the time I finish a whole loaf!

Are you a realty TV junkie? If so, what are your faves to watch or tivo? If not, what is your preferred shows to watch?
I have to admit that reality TV leaves me cold. If I’m going to watch TV, I want fantasy not reality. I loved the remake of Battlestar Galactica. I like House, and Supernatural. I enjoyed the Gilmore Girls. I’m looking forward to the new steamerpunk series cominig up this fall, Riese The Series, as well as the remake of the V series.

Sneak Peek into Seducing Destiny:

BLURB:

Jack, the alpha of the North Rockies pack, knows Destiny needs some time to come to grips with her werewolf heritage before he springs the whole mated for life thing on her.
Destiny has no intention of buying into the whole pack mentality, howl at the full moon thing. Sure, she practically drools at the sight of red meat, but that’s no reason to give up her comfortable life. Besides, she already has a boyfriend, a slick up-and-coming lawyer.
But when a band of rogue werewolves move into the area, Jack can’t afford to have his attention divided. He needs to convince Destiny that she belongs both in his pack and in his bed so he can concentrate on the new threat

Excerpt:

He shook his head, making little tsking sounds. “I can see you’re going to be handful.”

Destiny laughed. “Well, since I’m only going to be here for a week or two, you can probably manage to cope.” Jack just looked at her, not saying a word and Destiny felt a tiny dart of doubt lodge itself in her belly. Flustered she directed her attention to the vat of warm chocolate. “How do you know when the chocolate is ready to use?”

Jack picked up a ladle and stirred the vat. “After you’ve worked with it for a while, you just know. It’s a combination of texture, color and how it pours.” He held the ladle over the counter and poured a thin stream of chocolate onto a silicon baking sheet. “Come and see.” He put the ladle down and ran his finger through the soft chocolate before he lifted it to his lips and sucked the gooey liquid off. “Try it.”

Destiny sidled up to the counter. The smell of warm melted chocolate filled her sensitive nostrils. She recalled reading somewhere that chocolate was an aphrodisiac. She stuck her finger in the sticky puddle, pleasantly surprised at the warmth.

Jack put his hand over hers and swirled her finger through the chocolate. “Now taste it.” He lifted her finger up and opened his mouth, sucking it in.

Destiny gasped at the sensual feeling of his tongue swirling around her finger. The liquid chocolate slid down to her palm in a warm trickle. Deep inside her an aching need built, a fiery hunger she couldn’t deny. She wanted him. She’d always wanted him, and for now, that was enough. She’d worry about the future tomorrow.

She reached out and grasped his hand, dragging his finger through the cooling chocolate before she lifted it to her mouth. Slowly, making sure she had his complete attention, she parted her lips. Darting her tongue out, she flicked it at the chocolate-covered finger before she closed her lips over it and sucked the heady mixture into her mouth. She ran her tongue down the side of his finger, teasing, tasting, flirting with her every move.

Jack kept eye contact and lowered his other hand to the counter to scoop up more of the chocolate. He traced a warm wet line down her chin, following along behind with his tongue to clean it up. “Take off your shirt.” The husky note in his voice caused her pussy to clench in anticipation. “And your jeans.”

Destiny hesitated for a split second, and then slowly unbuttoned the shirt, still sucking on his finger. She slid the material from her shoulders with a sensual shrug and let it drop to the floor. Undoing the metal snap at the waist of her jeans, she wriggled her hips provocatively to let the material slide down and pool at her feet. A quick kick had them out of the way, and she stood before him clad only in two scraps of black lace that left nothing to the imagination.

    Hey Anne,

Thanks for coming by my blog. I love the sound of Seducing Destiny. Is this a stand alone title or is it part of a series?

    Nice interview Anne and Raine.

Anne your book sounds great. I like shifter stories. So you’d like to meet a gryphon. Do you have a gryphon story or are you going to write one about a gryphon shifter?

  4. Anne Kane on November 10th, 2009 1:28 am

I don’t have one. Yet. I’m thinking of making a gryphon shifter the hero of a future book. He’d be big and strong and a real Alpha type.

Okay, my answers didn’t post so I’ll try again.

Seducing Destiny is part of the Changeling multi-author Sex and Chocolate series. I have another book in that series scheduled for 2010.

As for a gryphon shifter, I’m sure I’ll work that in to a storyline somewhere as well. Just think, a big strong Alpha Male with wings and claws! LOL
