Lycan Lover by SK Yule

Tell us about your latest book. What inspired it? Is this a series and if so, how many books are you planning? If not, do you plan to have any spin-off’s from secondary characters inthe future?

While my first novel, Darkest Hours a Paranormal/Vampire Romance is a planned series, my latest novella, Lycan Lover which is a Paranormal Shapeshifter Romance that will release on November 6th at www.amirapress.com is a stand alone novella. I cannot pin down one exact thing for the inspiration of this novella except for my love of all paranormal creatures. If I had to say, it was an inspiration of my mind. While Lycan Lover is a stand alone novella it doesn’t mean there isn’t the potential for a spin off in the future. I never know what my brain will come up with at any given time.

If you could ask readers in your genre one question, what would it be and why?

What is the one thing that makes you pick up a particular book and read it? Word of mouth about a particular author, reviews, blurb, cover picture? I know this may sound like a strange question, but I think it would be interesting to find out what the one most important thing is that ultimately draws a reader to pick up a certain book out of hundreds or thousands of others.

What do you think is most important in the relationship between the main characters?

While I immensely enjoy writing a hot, spicy relationship that sizzles between my characters, I feel that respect is very important between my main characters. I personally do not like to see anyone disrespected and I cannot wrap my brain around such a relationship. So for me, demeaning relationships are out (for my main characters anyway).

How long does it take for you to create, write and submit to your editor a finished book?

A full length novel which I consider to be 60,000 – 85,000 words “normally” takes me approximately 4-6 months from start to submission. The time frame depends upon my personal schedule at the time and if my writing muse is willing to play or in the mood to be coaxed into everything. She can be very bad at times and slows me down when she’s being tempermental.

If one of your books was made into a movie, who do you think would capture your characters perfectly?

Wow. That is a fabulous and mind-boggling question. At this very moment in time, if Darkest Hours were to become a movie I would choose Gerard Butler to play Ashe and (okay I know this may sound weird) Hilary Duff to play Ebony. Gerard because I think he could pull off the dark-brooding type and Hilary because she fits Ebony’s description and I’d love to see her in a mature, serious role because I actually think she is a pretty good, underated actress.

Anything in the pipeline for 2009? Can we get a sneak look into upcoming projects?

As I mentioned before, Lycan Lover is set to release on November 6th. But, I can tell you that I have been contracted for another novella called Jericho’s Revenge. It is an Erotic Paranormal/Vampire Romance. I don’t have a release date, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be released this year.

For fun: If you could meet any character you want, who would it be & what would you do?

Any character? Geez! That is a near impossible question for an author and avid reader. I will pick one at this very moment, but I will tell you that by next week I would probably answer differently. But, if I could meet any character at this very moment, I would pick Van Helsing. I would insist he take me on a hunt so I could meet some of the fascinating creatures he hunts (of course, I might have to accidently botch some of those hunts because I really wouldn’t want to see the things that capture my attention so killed).

Any phobias we should know about?

Hmm. The only thing I can tell you that I am absolutely and completely grossed out by is rats. I’m really a big-time animal lover, but rats just really freak me out.

Are you a morning person or do you really hate those infernal cheery people who wake up happy? *grins*

I realllllly hate those infernal cheery people who wake up happy. Fascination for all things paranormal is not my only inspiration for writing paranormal romance. I am a creature of the night myself (that’s why my first love is vampires), and it is not unusual for me to be typing away until 2 or 3 AM. I am not a happy person if my eyes open before 9:00 AM. I do not start feeling human until around 11:00 AM, and since I’m not a coffee person, waking up is slow going.
