Please share with us your path to being published. How long did you write before your first book was published?

I’ve always scribbled, but life has been hectic. Then a couple of years ago I was housebound, nursing my ailing husband. I sat down one night and started to write, and my first full book spilled out.  I must confess while it has all the elements for a great story, I made more that one virgin writer mistake. I submitted, and it was accepted within ten days.

Fortunately, for me acquiring editor Paige Burns saw some thing there, and with invaluable help of a great editor, Terri Schaefer, it was published in 2007.

How many books did you write before the first was published?

None. Believe me I still think the fact that the book was accepted was a fluke.

Who was your first publisher? What was the name of your first book?

Liquid Silver Books was my first publisher. My erotic fantasy- The Sword and the Sorceress.

Have you ever finaled or won in a writing contest? If so, which contest(s), which book(s), and which year(s)? Do you feel contests are a good use of your energy and time? Would you recommend that writers enter them? Why or why not?

Lord this is embarrassing; I’ve never entered a contest. I write, submit, pray. I feel I’ve been gone about the business of writing backwards; I had no clue about all the sites, marketing- still struggling with that.

What time I have to write, I use it to create my stories. If you have a story suitable for a contest, by all means submit it.

What is your favorite animal, real or mythical and why?

I admire the majesty of horses, dream of owning one day, and for some reason I always chuckle when I see piglets. There is a single-mindedness to their greed I find oddly endearing. Yeah, I’m wired a little off.

I love the Phoenix; the promise of rebirth is a fascinating concept to me.

If you decided to no longer write, what would you do instead?

I’ve always been a stay at home Mom forever. Single again so I’m exploring my options. Fantasy job, Anthony Bourdain’s assistant, he has a show on the Travel Channel, and he travels around the world eating and drinking. Hmmmm, Gosh, I never thought about that. I do know it would involve books, librarian maybe.

What are your best promotion tips for other writers? What works best for you?

I’m so bad at this, what I’ve learned so far. Join pormo groups, and set time aside once a week to do this. I just leaned you should change the excerpts. Duh, simple but it never occurred to me.

Where do you get your ideas for your stories?

Say a word and I can build a story around it. For example, I told my BFF, I was working on a erotic vamp story. She asked how the heck a lady vamp would perform fellatio. Now, let just say very carefully, it’s in my story.

A small sample from Descent Into Pleasure, from the Goin Down Anthology !

Delicate hands ran up and down the hard length of his back. Her agile tongue tangled with his. The taste of her was heady and mind numbing at the same time.

With one hand under her hips for support, the other impatiently undid the buttons of the mannish shirt she wore. His involuntary grin at the sight of the sports bra hadn’t deterred him.

Easing down the soft cotton, he captured the tightly budded nipple into to the hot cavern of his mouth. Jenna’s tortured moan hardened him even more.

She shook and tried to burrow into him. With each swipe of his tongue, her response became more of a demand. Caressing the dusky rose of the large circles make her writhe under his agile tongue.

The sensitivity of her nipples amazed and delighted him. They became swollen and puffy under his hungry mouth. Her little whimpers faded into husky moans of entreaty.

Strong suction on the furled aureole combined with the rough denim abrading her clit through the thin silk of her panties triggered a series of spasms through her body, which rocked her closer to a climax.

Surrender tinged the gasp in his ear.

With his mouth firmly attached to her nipple, he grasped her hips to anchor her against the wall. His grateful hands curved around her thighs. The silky skin under his palms tensed. Her hips wiggled to settle the bulky weight of his cock into the damp crevice of her pussy that sought more contact with the hard ridge.

He wanted her more than the next breath, but he be damned if the first time he sank his cock into her, it be in a greasy service elevator against its scuffed wall. Hell, they were on borrowed time as it is, at any moment someone could activate the car and shatter the bubble of erotic need surrounding them.

Hi Renee, from another Goin’ Down author and a Legends of Loving, Texas author. Haven’t we had some fun with these stories? We’ve taken a diverse group of women to write stories about the same subject. Sex in elevators and mail order brides in the old West. And because of it, we’ve made some good friends. I can’t wait to see how your female vamp handles a blow job. I’m sure the guy will enjoy it thoroughly. :-)

Congrats, Renee. Hope Wild Ride to Paradise comes out very soon.

Wow. I never thought I’d meet another writer who’s been working backwards. I’ve never entered a contest either, and I don’t have an agent. I just submit and pray. And I’m sure that first acceptance wasn’t a fluke. You seem to have real talent from the tiny excerpt I just read. I love Anthony Bourdain too. Great excerpt!
