Belinda lives in the wilderness of the Siskiyou Mountains and at night, she runs naked with a pack of wolves….

Uhh…

Belinda lives near the Siskiyou Mountains and shares her home with a pack of Siberian Huskies who like to pretend they are wolves.  And she usually keeps her clothing on when she goes outside.

Belinda loves to travel, collect rare gemstones, make soap and spend precious time with her daughters.  Her degree is in History with a Cultural Anthropology minor.  On weekends, you will often find Belinda ringside at a dog show, comb and spray bottle in hand.

Getting to know Belinda:

Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.

I actually two new series running over at Changeling Press.  One is Black Planet, which is a sci fi/futuristic series set in a gritty, yet optimistic future.  This series features, strong heroines, some beautiful aliens and lots of blistering action.  The newest book in this series is Black Planet: Tiger Eyes.

The second series is Imperative.  This is more of a futuristic fantasy series.  This series examines a society where humans are mated with their ideal partner by Nature herself.  This is a highly emotional series, the conflict is more within the relationships than any outside factors.  The upcoming release is Imperative: Always You.

I also have a book coming from New Concepts Publishing.  It’s called Soul Keeper, and is the start of a new Urban Fantasy series about mythological creatures hiding in plain sight.  This should release in the winter of 2009.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I’m an avid soap maker, I also collect rare gemstones.  Oh, and Siberian Huskies, I have a collection of those too.  Real ones…with fur and slobber.  I also love to travel, my daughter lives in the Caribbean so I just took my first trip to the US Virgin Islands.

What season is your favorite and why?

I love the fall.  Where I live, the summer can be brutally hot, and then it seems one day in October, it stops being hot, and we get a short, blessed respite before the rain begins.

What would we find on your bookcase if we looked? What is one of your favorite authors?

Oh, I have lots of reference books, wildlife, art, mythology and lots of history.  There’s also some poetry tucked away there, the Iliad and the Odyssey and my Time/Life collection on the Old West.

My favorite authors include Laurell K Hamilton, JR Ward, Marjorie Liu, Neil Gaiman and Hermann Hesse.

What was the last book you read (e or print) and did you like it?

The Last Twilight, by Marjorie Liu.  I liked it, not my favorite of her collection, but it was still really good.

What makes a good book?

A strong plot, engaging characters and beautiful language.  Language doesn’t have to be pretty to be beautiful, but imaginative and poetic.  I want to walk away hearing words, rhythm, and I want to wonder what’s going on with the characters now that the story is finished.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever done?

Boy, there’s a doozie…It’s a tie.  I volunteered to take dogs to the starting line at the Iditarod a few years back, that was just surreal.  Then when visiting Hong Kong, I conned my way into the world premiere of a Michelle Yeoh movie.  I have to tell you, Michelle is a teeny-tiny woman.  Gorgeous, but tiny!

Boxers or briefs?

Commando.

Ben Affleck or Matt Damon to save the world?

Are you kidding?  Did you see Dogma?  Sheesh!  If you’re going to save the world, do it right and send Buffy…or Anita Blake!

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?

I’d like people to know that I care about what I write and what they think.  Writing is a bit of a compulsion, and a rather lonely business, so feel free to talk to me on the loops or send me an email.

Where are you published?

At this point in time, I’m at Changeling Press and New Concepts Publishing.

Welcome Belinda and thanks for being in the spotlight. Huskies are beautiful dogs. I love them though I can not have any pets where I live. What got you interested in those types of dogs?

Hi Raine! I started Siberians in the late ’80s after I read an article about them in Dog Fancy or something. After years of labradors with increasing health problems, the Siberian seemed to be a breath of fresh air! They are generally healthy with a playful attitude all their lives. There is a joke, they’re like potato chips, you can’t have just one! Belinda

Hey Belinda, Another great interview! Love the comment about the Siberians and slobber! LOL And, about sending Buffy or Anita to save the world! *G* And, oh yeah, commando is the only way to go for a sexy man!

    Great interview!

BTW, I have a pack of Huskies and Akitas. And one of them… I’m not sure he’s NOT a wolf, actually. My step-mother has a purebred wolf rescue, and the two of them are like peas in a behavioral pod.

Oh, and I love mythology as well. It was great learning more about you and your books.

Great interview, Belinda, although I’m thinking Anita Blake may be ummmm… too busy to save the world. LOL How about Rachel Morgan and her fairy sidekick instead? LOL

Another interesting interview, Belinda! Hope you’re enjoying the best month of the year (in my opinion, as well).

I agree..Rachel Morgan and her friends might be a tad better than Anita Blake. She seems tohave too many responsibiliites to deal with. *grins*

I enjoyed reading the interview when sometimes I am guilty of scimming. That big Red S on my forehead. Read every word. I’m not that keen on the Amanda Blake novels but I look forward to reading yours.
